Dr. McCauley joined EIDB (HJF) in 2019 and oversees clinical research efforts on emerging infectious diseases through her role as Clinical Research Liaison for West Africa. She also works on many Phase I clinical trials in the Clinical Trial Center (CTC) at WRAIR, including the yellow fever vaccination study, the COVID-19 Army vaccine trial and related studies.
Originally from Texas, Dr. McCauley attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX where she focused on International Health studies and spent time in Botswana treating HIV+ patients in the Baylor International Pediatric AIDs Initiative (BIPAI) clinic. She went on to complete an Internal Medicine residency at Ole Miss and Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
Her main research focus during her training was Flaviviral infections and the host immune response and worked on a capacity-building project through the Fulbright organization in Nepal studying newly endemic Dengue virus in the country. She has worked extensively in international health including staffing free clinics in Mexico (Matamoros, Ensenada, Tijuana), and triaging asylum seekers at the Migrant Clinic in San Diego in 2018-2019, during the ongoing migrant crisis. This work encompassed traveling through the Peruvian Amazon by boat to deliver free care to the indigent.
