EIDB, HJFMRI, and collaborators in Nigeria completed Monkeypox Public Outreach and Sample Collection Training in Lagos and Abuja.
The training, funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, reached 130 human and animal healthcare workers. Training focused on expanding knowledge about monkeypox, and recognizing and identifying cases in both human and animal populations.
Monkeypox is a viral disease that occurs mostly in Central and West Africa. Most cases are mild with early symptoms similar to influenza, but it can cause death in about 1%-5% of cases.
